Forest
and Veld section includes Camphor Avenue and Ficus Avenue - Camphor avenue is
where Cecil John Rhodes planted trees around 1898 to honour Queen Victoria. Sadly,
Queen Victoria never got to see her avenue; the Bushveld Garden; the Concert Area
- with an inconspicuous stage and a steep lawn, this section provides a natural
auditorium against a fabulous mountain backdrop.
From December to March music concerts
are held here, it is also a perfect area for family picnics; Mathew's Rockery,
which was built and named in honour of the first curator at Kirstenbosch; van
Riebeeck's Hedge - Jan van Riebeeck who was the first governor of the Cape Colony
planted this hedge in 1660 as a boundary; Fledgling and Enchanted Forests - the
Fledgling Forest, which is still under development, shows how a forest is started
and in the Enchanted Forest you will find many different animals and birds.
