Lion's
Head, which at 2195 feet high, lies between Table Mountain and Signal Head in
Cape Town, South Africa. This mountain forms part of the Table Mountain National
Park. The Dutch, in the 17th century, called this mountain "Leeuwen Kop",
which means "Lion Head" and Signal Head was known as "Leeuwen Staart",
which translates to "Lion's Tail". However, the English called it "Ye
Sugar Loaf", the reason behind this is unknown.
On the spiral walk up Lion's Head,
which should take approximately one hour, you will come across a wide range of
natural fynbos vegetation as well as a variety of small animals. This walk provides
a breathtaking 360 degree view of the Cape Peninsula. This walk, which is not
too challenging, is a popular walk with families.
