Gordons Bay
In 1778 Gordon's Bay was named after an officer who served in the Dutch East India Company, Captain Robert James Gordon, who explored the area. Gordon's Bay sits at the foot of the Hottentots Holland Mountains and is in a secluded cove on the eastern shore of False Bay. This "village" became a municipality in 1961.
It was only in 1919 when the fishing community asked the Village Management Board for a small harbour in the bay to keep their boats safe. In 1937 the first block of Gordon's Bay's first harbour was laid by Albertus Brand Faure.
With a mediterranean climate, clean white sandy beaches, shallow paddling areas and rock pools, as well as excellent restaurants, shopping malls and amenities, Gordon's Bay has a vast amount to offer the whole family.
Gordon's Bay has a wealth of accommodation available from self catering apartments, houses and cottages to bed and breakfast establishments, guest houses and hotels. In this "village" you will find the locals are very friendly and extremely helpful.
