Cape Town - Towns and Villages within the Western Cape
Mossel Bay
The history of this town dates back to 1488, when Bartolomeu Dias sailed into Mossel Bay. This was also the first port where they could communicate with other seafarers, they would leave a letter in a shoe under a tree - this is now a historical Post Office Tree (where I might add you can still post your letters from). The origin and growth of this town was due to the seafaring trade.
If you are a steam train enthusiast, you will know that Mossel Bay is closely linked with the history of steam trains. This town has become well known for the restoring and maintaining of steam trains of all classes in South Africa.
There are many museums and historical buildings to visit, however, this town has a lot to offer for all age groups. For the watersport and sporting enthusiast there is a wide variety to choose from like golf, bungi and bridge diving to shark cage diving and ship wreck diving, to name just a few.
