NoordhoekNoordhoek translated into English means Northern Corner. The first people to live in this valley were the Khoi nomads. However, in 1857 the area was divided into six portions, most of which were bought by the De Villiers family. Most of these farms grew vegetables to supply the vessels in Simon's Town.Noordhoek today has retained it's rural character and although the residents welcome tourism, they will stand together to prevent modern developments which they deem to be too urban. This area is the last remaining rural area and country village in the Cape Peninsula. Fortunately, vineyards and vegetable farming are now returning to Noordhoek. Noordhoek is situated at the bottom of the world famous Chapman's Peak Drive, between Hout Bay and Kommetjie on the Atlantic Coast side of the Cape. It has a seven kilometre long stretch of untouched beautiful white sand beach where you can swim, surf (this is a very popular beach for surfing), walk or run. As horses play a huge part in the lives of the Noordhoek residents, the sight of horses galloping along the water's edge is a common one. Noordhoek is also home to many working artists. Despite Noordhoek holding onto it's rural charm it has a wide variety of accommodation on offer, from self catering, bed and breakfast establishments, guest houses to luxury hotels.
