Cape Town - Towns and Villages within the Western Cape
Robertson
Robertson was named after Scottish Dutch Reformed Church Minister, Dr William Robertson in 1853. The town's main industry at this time was farming and wagon building. In 1898, after the Anglo Boer War, the railways became the main transporter of goods and the wagon making industry ceased to exist. Farmers turned to wine and fruit farming after World War 1, as the Ostrich farming industry collapsed. Some farmers turned to breeding racehorses instead - and this together with the wine and fruit farming has lead to the growth of Robertson.
Robertson today is well known for it's clean, tree lined streets with beautiful roses, vineyards and bright bourgainvilleas. It is still well known for it's wine and fruit farming together with the ostrich, dairy farms and racehorse breeding farms.
For a relatively small town, Robertson has a wealth of accommodation establishments to choose from, these range from caravan and camping sites, backpacker and youth hostels, bed and breakfast establishments, guest houses, self catering to a charming 19th century Victorian hotel.
Again, for such a small town, Robertson has many activities and attractions on offer. For help in making the right choice, the Robertson Tourism Bureau has the in-house knowledge to assit you.
