Bed & Breakfast canoeing holiday on the wine route
I live in Claremont in the Cape and a while ago a friend of mine organised an outing to show her sister, who was visiting her, some of the delights of the Cape.
There were six of us, all ladies, and we travelled from the Cape to enjoy a Wine Route canoe adventure, only an hour's drive away.
They promised a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we would remember - always. And they were right!
The canoe ride was on the Bree river, where we had such fun, but first we had to have a briefing and safety talk and some paddling instruction. There were 2 people to each canoe and of course a very experienced instructor. After paddling for about 3 hours we had lunch on the river bank - all beautifully provided - then continued paddling back to the take-out point. Some of us, myself and partner included, managed to roll our canoe a full turn into the river, couldn't move for laughing, all completely safe, nothing lost, not even our dignity because it was all part of the fun. The weir gave us some palpitations as we manoeuvred down the fast flowing river, but so exhilarating!
After arrival at the take-out point we were taken to the Winery for wine tasting - well deserved after the excitement of the day.
Myself and a couple of friends decided to really make a little break of it and stayed overnight at a bed and breakfast guest house in Worcester. It made the outing more of a short holiday, the B&B was super, such lovely people who looked after us so well, they said they often had people stay who had been on the Bree River. All full of the experience as we were.
All in all the adventure was just that, an experience indeed to be remembered, and repeated as soon as possible. What a way to allow overseas visitors to see just what Cape Town has to offer.
